Keepmoving Records "Shadow Builder" Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Review

"It’s a thoroughly serious work in terms of its orchestral writing and instrumentation, and the effect of the choir on top of the symphony orchestra is thrilling indeed. This is large scale, Gothic fantasy scoring at its best."

"Seeber’s solo string writing is quite sublime, especially evidenced by a sumptuous “Love Theme” and the delicious fragility of “Stephanie’s Gift,” while his vibrant, paired trumpet arrangements in “Turning Back of Time” are dazzling."

"Seeber’s understanding of large symphonic form and classical orchestration is well in evidence on this score, like SHADOWBUILDER, is often reaches massive heights of striking drama and elegance."

"Seeber’s score for To the Ends of Time is one of the most beautiful, thematically conscious fantasy scores of the last two decades and it’s just a shame it isn’t better-known. Featuring major battle scenes with choral accompaniment and a haunting love theme for James and Princess Stephanie, the score is also characterized by a number of innovative features for fantasy elements like the magical clock that speeds up time!"

Keepmoving Records: To The Ends of Time Review

"Listening to Eckart Seeber's score for Shadow Builder is like discovering a lost treasure. I didn't know what to expect, having not seen the movie or having heard any of Seeber's work previously, but this score really grabbed me. I've been listening to it for a couple of weeks now, and I can honestly say this is one of those very rare beasts that gets better and better the more times you play it."

"The story of the film is punctuated by Eckart Seeber's vibrant music." Variety Magazine

"If the test tube containing the DNA of Wagner was to be accidently spilled into a petri dish containing the gene strands of Bernard Herrmann, I would expect the resultant mutant clone to write film scores only second to those of Eckart Seeber. The scores Eckart composed, orchestrated and produced for "To the Ends of Time" and "Bram Stoker's Shadowbuilder" are masterworks, exquisite in setting the films' tones while subtly complementing the on-screen action. Eckart Seeber is truly among the brightest and best young composers working in the motion picture industry today." Todd King (in The Hollywood Reporter 8/97)

"Eckart Seeber has a vivid musical imagination. The world's music is his playground ... He is the thinking man's approach to enlightenment." Chuck Diliberto (Billboard Magazine, syndicated)

Top 10 Film Scores of 1998: 1. THE AVENGERS, Joel McNeely, 2. MULAN, Jerry Goldsmith, 3. ... 4. ... 8. BRAM STOKER's SHADOWBUILDER, Eckart Seeber, 9. MEET JOE BLACK, Thomas Newman, ... FilmScore Monthly

"Eckart Seeber has been composing an engrossing soundtrack for this film, greatly enhancing the film's impact, skillfully placing cues at critical points. The film utilizes Orff-ish choir arrangements and thus generates a tension-pact atmosphere, just like Jerry Goldsmith's fabulous award-winning score for 'The Omen' did back in 1976. Choir arrangements of this style take a lot of practice and skill on the composer's and arranger's end, and the performers alike, and I was curiously surprised by the quality of this one. Because religion is directly embedded in the movie's storyline, these choir themes work great and give the score a big and ominous, almost foreboding character." Review of "Bram Stoker's Shadowbuilder" - Guido Henkel (DVD Review)

“… it is one of the most memorable themes I have heard in recent times, that captures the mood of a quiet, peaceful town and tragic fate pretty well, but it is also used in the fast passages, adding a lot tension and even gives the young boy some heroism. It is a very good score for a good move.....It is very effective in the movie, can stand on it's own and would please every horror-fan and choir-buff." Review of "Bram Stoker's Shadowbuilder" - Roman Deppe (FilmScore Monthly, July 9, 1998 )

"Composer Eckart Seeber did a masterful job in combining traditional symphonic scoring with church hall chanting. The end result is a tense, ominous score with religious overtones enhancing the foreboding factor of the film." Aaron Miller (DVD Cult)

"Seeber's music shows deft melody, grace and charm - rare qualities among current day composers, serious or popular. Admirable vital energy, surprising amount of emotional punch.....has some of the direct, ingenious motivic power of Liszt." Rothweiler (The American Record Guide)

"Musical pioneer Eckart Seeber has brought the world an eclectic form of modern world-ethnic-jazz music in a groundbreaking release ... the prototype of modern musical expression in the 21st century." Musical Soundscapes
